Vacuum Properties
AIR – Ambient air operation
The AIR-slit systems represent a large variety of systems optimized for the specific use, size, and configuration. They are optimized to operate in air, and the materials are carefully chosen for their mechanical and radiation-resistant properties.
AIR – In-vacuum operation
After a special preparation for vacuum, the AIR-slit systems are often used inside vacuum chambers, in particular the systems with internal motors, such as AT-F7-AIR and AT-C8-HV or a modified version of the larger IB-C50-AIR. Special care for the vacuum properties of the materials should be taken. For this, a wide range of UHV-rated options, such as alternative wiring and connectors, could be considered for an in-vacuum operating AIR-slit system. HV – High Vacuum:
Thousands of high vacuum JJ-slit systems are operating successfully at a large variety of neutron and synchrotron beamlines all around the world. A significant part of these are operating in a vacuum lower than
10-5 mbar.
Occasionally, a beamline, typically operating at 10-6 mbar or lower, have extra sensible components such as mirrors or detectors in close vicinity of the slits. In these cases, additional precautions may be needed to avoid contamination. For this, a wide range of UHV-rated options, such as alternative wiring, could be considered for an HV-slit system. UHV- Ultra-high Vacuum (< 10-8 mbar):
In this vacuum regime, temperature resistant and low outgassing materials are carefully chosen to reach 10-9 mbar and to avoid any contamination.
